On life and Luxus – a chat with Minna Heiskanen

Our fantastic Administrative Manager Minna is back from a year-long leave and we couldn’t wait to have a chat with her. Read on to find out how she ended up in her current role, and what is her absolute favorite thing about Luxus.




Hi Minna! You recently returned from a year-long maternity leave. How does it feel to be back in business?

Minna: It’s great to be back! Although I enjoyed the time I got to spend at home, it’s been very refreshing to get back into the swing of things. What I missed the most during my time away were my amazing colleagues and the Luxus family. I’ve definitely had a lot of catching up to do after being away for so long, but I’m feeling very motivated and excited to be here!


You’ve been with Luxus for over six years now. How do you think the company has changed and grown over time?

M: When I started at Luxus, I remember noticing how friendly and helpful people were. I was astonished by how talented everyone was, and I could tell that people clearly loved what they were doing. Luxus has come a long way and we’ve definitely had our fair share of our ups and downs. What’s great is that we have somehow managed to hold on to the spirit and values we’ve always had. As of right now, I feel like Luxus is stronger and better than ever.


How did you end up working in HR and administration?

M: I’ve literally tried a little bit of everything [laughs]. I’ve worked at the Linnanmäki amusement park, several kindergartens and various offices. I’ve done some strawberry picking and coached a gymnastics team. Although it may all seem very random, I wouldn’t trade any of it because each and every one of those experiences has taught me something. Even if it’s that I’d rather eat strawberries than pick them. 

I studied business with a major in marketing. Before and right after graduating, I worked at the marketing department of L’Oréal Finland. The work was really interesting and I loved planning and executing marketing campaigns, but after a few years I felt like it was time to try something new. So I traded the endless supply of free cosmetics for the agency life, and haven’t looked back since.

Over the years at Luxus, I’ve been lucky enough to gradually gain more responsibility. I truly enjoy my current role as an Administrative Manager, as I love working with people and helping the company stay organized.


What are your favorite things about your job? Are there any challenges?

M: The best part of my work are by far the people! I also highly value the ability to work independently. Even though I’m working behind the scenes, the pace is extremely fast, and there are always dozens of different things to do and learn. I get energy from working in a dynamic environment, where decisions have to be made fast. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the biggest challenge is often time management.


Your coworkers describe you as extremely organized and efficient. What’s your secret?

M: I don’t really think of myself as someone who’s always efficient and organized, but it’s definitely what I strive for. I think that when you do what you love, your motivation is enough to keep you disciplined. When I feel unproductive or can’t get a grip of anything, I write down a prioritized to-do list and start from the top. Having a schedule helps a lot; when everything is written down and organized, I don’t have to worry or stress about missing something. And if those plans change – as they often do, I simply revise my schedule.

It’s also important to maintain a good work-life balance with enough free time. This is why you see me coming to the office at 7 AM the latest, and leaving around 3 PM.


Lastly, what do you think makes Luxus special?

M: The extremely talented people!
